ALAW receive BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nomination

ALAW has just received a nomination for best traditional track in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. The track nominated is ‘Lisa Lân’ (Pure Lisa) is from the recently released album Dead Man’s Dance and features the guest vocalist Gwilym Bowen Rhys.

The Radio 2 Folk Awards are the most prestigious in the UK folk and roots industry and this year will take place in Belfast on the 4th April 2018.

They are one of two Welsh artists to feature in the awards, the other being Gwyneth Glyn, who’s song Cân y Cŵn is up for best original track. Cân y Cŵn is from the album Tro, an album that was produced by ALAW’s guitarist Dylan Fowler.

“Having poured some much love and energy into this album it is delightful to have this recognition” says fiddle player Oliver Wilson-Dickson.

It also fits beautifully with the bands stated mission to showcase traditional Welsh music outside of Wales.

“Wales has such a rich heritage of moving and mysterious melodies which can get overlooked” Oliver explains “so its fantastic to have a traditional Welsh song nominated in this category”.

The album Dead Man’s Dance has received broad critical acclaim and was featured album of the month on FRUK. Its has been played on radio stations from Australia to Hawaii.
